Mission (LANL)
Also known as Mission; NNSA ATS-5
Operated by Los Alamos National Laboratory at Los Alamos Strategic Computing Complex .
Researched with AI assistance, checked by scripts. These rows were researched by AI agents reading public operator, laboratory and vendor sources, appended by scripts and checked by automated validation; no subject-matter expert has reviewed them (how this site is made). A mechanical second-reader pass has since fetched every cited source: 1350 of 1540 systems have a readable citation that names them, and 64 are genuinely weakly sourced. Every claim carries its source and a confidence tier. Treat anything below verified as a lead, not a citation.

Figures are as last publicly reported for the configuration described below, not a live measurement. Where a system was upgraded in place, the post-upgrade configuration is shown and the earlier one appears in the timeline.
What this machine is made of
One row per supplier relationship. “Supplier at build” is the company that shipped the part at the time; where that company has since been acquired, the parent it rolls up to today is shown beside it. That distinction is what makes ticker-level aggregation possible across a thirty-year dataset.

The read
Classified-only NNSA Advanced Technology System at Los Alamos, the fifth ATS in the ASC program, replacing `crossroads`. LANL unveiled it in October 2025 with HPE as prime contractor and NVIDIA as partner; NNSA reiterated the plan on 16 July 2026. It is HPE Cray Supercomputing GX5000 with NVIDIA Vera Rubin and Quantum-X800 InfiniBand, direct liquid-cooled, expected operational in 2027 with full deployment in 2027 and 2028. A 30 September 2026 LANL release says Mission will have three purpose-built partitions: Ranger (Vera CPU), Sandstone (Vera Rubin NVL-4) and Starlight (Vera Rubin NVL-72), with Starlight possibly arriving as early as late 2026. LANL's design targets are more than 3x the per-CPU performance of Crossroads and more than 4x memory per core. Funding depends on appropriations. No counts, FLOPS or power are published. Sister systems: `lanl-vision`, `lanl-veritas`.
