Tri-Lab Operating System Stack
LLNL-originated RHEL derivative, tuned for HPC and shared freely beyond the DOE tri-labs that built it. Pleiades' current OS per NASA's own documentation.
Why this part
Built at Lawrence Livermore for the three NNSA weapons laboratories, LLNL, LANL and Sandia, and then released openly enough that sites with no tri-lab affiliation could adopt it too. NASA's Pleiades is the clearest example in this dataset: NASA's own current resources page names the operating system simply as "Tri-Lab Operating System Stack (TOSS)," with no tri-lab connection of its own beyond using the same freely available RHEL-tuned build. Pleiades did not run TOSS from the start. It shipped on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, SLES 11 as of TOP500's 2016 listing, upgraded to SLES 12 Service Pack 2 in mid-2017 per NASA's own change announcement, and moved to TOSS at some later point NASA's current page does not date. This dataset records only the current state because the exact transition date off SLES is not stated in any source we could fetch; the SLES history is preserved here rather than in a separate edge.

“Units recorded” sums only the edges where a public source states a quantity. It is a floor, not a total, and should never be read as installed base.
