Delta

Operated by NCSA at NCSA National Petascale Computing Facility .

Phase 1 seed dataset, compiled by hand. These rows were built from public operator, laboratory and vendor sources. A mechanical second-reader pass has since fetched every cited source: 1092 of 1153 systems have a readable citation that names them, and 40 are genuinely weakly sourced. Every claim carries its source and a confidence tier. Treat anything below verified as a lead, not a citation.

Figures are as last publicly reported for the configuration described below, not a live measurement. Where a system was upgraded in place, the post-upgrade configuration is shown and the earlier one appears in the timeline.

What this machine is made of

One row per supplier relationship. “Supplier at build” is the company that shipped the part at the time; where that company has since been acquired, the parent it rolls up to today is shown beside it. That distinction is what makes ticker-level aggregation possible across a thirty-year dataset.

The read

NCSA's NSF-funded GPU-heavy system (grant No. OAC-2005572, per NCSA's own Delta User Guide), distinct from the newer GH200-based DeltaAI already in this dataset. NCSA's own resource page and wiki describe 132 dual-socket CPU nodes (AMD EPYC 7763 'Milan', 64 cores/socket), 100 four-way NVIDIA A40 nodes, 100 four-way NVIDIA A100 (40GB) nodes, 6 eight-way A100 (40GB) nodes, 8 eight-way NVIDIA H200 (141GB) nodes and 1 eight-way AMD MI100 node, all connected over HPE/Cray's 200 Gb/s Slingshot 11 interconnect. TOP500 independently lists this same machine (system 180121) as 'Delta - Apollo 6500, AMD EPYC 7763 64C 2.45GHz, NVIDIA A100, Slingshot-10', confirming the same AMD EPYC 7763 and NVIDIA A100 combination NCSA's own pages describe, which is why confidence is verified here. TOP500's own figures (Rmax 3.81 PFlop/s, Rpeak 8.05 PFlop/s, 49,600 cores) are recorded as this row's performance figures since NCSA's pages describe node-level hardware rather than a single whole-machine FLOPS figure. Delta first appeared on the November 2022 TOP500 list at rank 141, which is the edition this row's list_appearances pointer targets (the current 2026-06 edition's 50-row pointer budget from LEGAL.md is already full); by June 2026 it had slipped to rank 365 as newer systems arrived. No power_kw figure was found on a page this research could fetch.

Source check

We fetched this system's own citations and recorded whether each page actually mentions it. This is a corroboration signal, not a fact check, and it is published so you can see how well the sourcing holds up rather than take it on trust.
