IBM Quantum System Two (Yorktown Heights)

IBM Quantum System Two (Yorktown Heights) is a superconducting circuits quantum computer operated by IBM in USA. Its physical qubit count has not been published. 8 sourced specs are in the spec sheet. No benchmark figures are recorded for it yet.

Also known as first IBM Quantum System Two

The first IBM Quantum System Two, unveiled 4 December 2023 and described as operational at IBM's Yorktown Heights lab, powered by three Heron processors at launch. IBM's hardware page still lists IBM sites in New York among System Two locations. The processor count may have changed since launch, so no total qubit figure is recorded. IBM does not state external access terms for this unit.

Technical details as the builder or a paper states them, each with its own source. A blank is a fact we could not source, not a zero. Fidelity and coherence figures are in the benchmark table below.

Processor IBM Quantum Heron, three processors at launch Vendor reported IBM's 4 December 2023 release and SiliconANGLE both say the first System Two began with three Heron processors; the 2023 Heron is the 133-qubit version. newsroom.ibm.comsiliconangle.com
Qubit type fixed-frequency transmon qubits with tunable couplers Vendor reported IBM's 2023 blog describes Heron as 133 fixed-frequency qubits with tunable couplers and a 2024 survey calls IBM processors transmon-based; family-level. ibm.comarxiv.org
Native gates CZ, RZ, SX, X, ID Vendor reported A 2024 survey lists these basis gates for ibm_torino (Heron r1) and IBM documentation lists them for Heron backends; family-level, not read from this unit. quantum.cloud.ibm.comarxiv.org
Two-qubit gate time 84 ns Independent Median CZ duration on ibm_torino, a 133-qubit Heron r1, in a July 2024 snapshot; family-level, not measured on this unit. arxiv.org
Cooling and environment dilution refrigerator (Bluefors KIDE platform in the System Two cryostat) Vendor reported IBM's 2022 blog says System Two would first use Bluefors' Kide platform and a Bluefors-focused Quantum Insider post (Jan 2024) says Kide sits at the heart of System Two; IBM-wide, not a unit-specific statement. ibm.comthequantuminsider.com
Operating temperature 10 mK Vendor reported IBM says the qubits sit about a hundredth of a degree above absolute zero and Bluefors lists a typical Kide base temperature of 10 mK; platform-level, not measured on this unit. ibm.combluefors.com
Software Qiskit SDK, Qiskit Runtime Vendor reported IBM's 2023 launch materials for System Two name Qiskit Runtime and Qiskit 1.0 as the software stack. newsroom.ibm.comibm.com
Roadmap designed to house future IBM processor generations; IBM roadmap runs to 2033, with Starling (200 logical qubits) in 2029 Vendor reported IBM said this on 4 December 2023 when the first System Two began operation; the roadmap has since been updated. newsroom.ibm.comibm.com
