IBM Osprey
IBM Osprey is a superconducting circuits quantum computer operated by IBM in USA. It has 433 physical qubits. It ranks 4 of 43 superconducting machines in this table by physical qubit count. 7 sourced specs are in the spec sheet. No benchmark figures are recorded for it yet.
Also known as IBM Quantum Osprey
IBM's 433-qubit processor, announced 9 November 2022 as more than triple Eagle's qubit count. IBM's retired-QPU table lists one 433-qubit cloud device, ibm_seattle, retired 2023-09-07, and no later Osprey device. The announcement carried no performance benchmarks. IBM has not published error or coherence figures for Osprey on the pages consulted.
Spec sheet
Technical details as the builder or a paper states them, each with its own source. A blank is a fact we could not source, not a zero. Fidelity and coherence figures are in the benchmark table below.
| Spec | Value | Basis | Note | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Processor | Osprey, 433 qubits | Vendor reported | IBM says Osprey is the largest qubit count of any IBM processor at its 9 November 2022 announcement, more than triple Eagle. | newsroom.ibm.comquantum.cloud.ibm.com |
| Cooling and environment | Cryostat with custom high-density flex cabling | Vendor reported | IBM says Osprey needed custom flex cabling in the cryostat to fit its I/O needs into the same wiring footprint; cryostat temperature is not stated for this chip. | quantum.cloud.ibm.com |
| Cloud platforms | IBM Quantum cloud (single device ibm_seattle, retired) | Vendor reported | Retired-QPU table lists one 433-qubit device, ibm_seattle, retired 2023-09-07. | quantum.cloud.ibm.com |
| Access and pricing | Formerly IBM cloud queue; retired 2023-09-07 | Vendor reported | No published price; the only 433-qubit cloud QPU, ibm_seattle, is on IBM retired list. | quantum.cloud.ibm.com |
| Predecessor | IBM Eagle | Vendor reported | IBM says Osprey has more than triple the 127 qubits of Eagle and is nearly quadruple its size. | newsroom.ibm.comquantum.cloud.ibm.com |
| Successor | IBM Condor | Vendor reported | IBM compares Condor (1,121 qubits) to Osprey in performance; the 2021 Eagle release already named a 433-qubit then 1,121-qubit sequence. | ibm.comnewsroom.ibm.com |
| Roadmap | IBM Quantum System Two targeted online by end of 2023, scaling toward 4,000+ qubits by 2025 | Vendor reported | Stated in the 9 November 2022 announcement. | newsroom.ibm.com |
