Also known as LANL Cerrillos; Roadrunner sibling

Operated by Los Alamos National Laboratory .

Researched with AI assistance, checked by scripts. These rows were researched by AI agents reading public operator, laboratory and vendor sources, appended by scripts and checked by automated validation; no subject-matter expert has reviewed them (how this site is made). A mechanical second-reader pass has since fetched every cited source: 1350 of 1540 systems have a readable citation that names them, and 64 are genuinely weakly sourced. Every claim carries its source and a confidence tier. Treat anything below verified as a lead, not a citation.

What this machine is made of

One row per supplier relationship. “Supplier at build” is the company that shipped the part at the time; where that company has since been acquired, the parent it rolls up to today is shown beside it. That distinction is what makes ticker-level aggregation possible across a thirty-year dataset.

The read

Smaller stablemate of Roadrunner (see roadrunner) at Los Alamos, using the same hybrid design of IBM BladeCenter QS22 blades with PowerXCell 8i processors at 3.2 GHz paired with LS21 Opteron blades at 1.8 GHz over InfiniBand. A Carnegie Mellon release of July 2014 says Cerrillos supported non-classified research at LANL and that Roadrunner and Cerrillos were both taken offline 'last year', which gives the 2013 decommissioning year recorded here; CMU then built its Narwhal cluster (1,792 cores) from 448 blades salvaged from Cerrillos. CMU quotes 14,400 cores for Cerrillos while TOP500 lists 7,200, and neither source says how cores were counted, so the TOP500 figure is used. TOP500 lists 63.25 TFlop/s Rmax, 80.93 peak and a stated 138 kW, ranked 42nd in November 2008 and 61st in June 2009, its last list. The accelerator part is IBM's PowerXCell 8i as in the Roadrunner record.

Source check

We fetched this system's own citations and recorded whether each page actually mentions it. This is a corroboration signal, not a fact check, and it is published so you can see how well the sourcing holds up rather than take it on trust.
