Intel DAOS
Object store built for byte-addressable persistent memory and NVMe. Aurora's 230 PB storage tier, and the only leadership-class deployment where the integrator did not also supply storage.
Why this part
The one genuine attempt to stop pretending. Every parallel filesystem here presents a POSIX interface designed for a single machine with one spinning disk, and then spends enormous effort making that abstraction survive a hundred thousand concurrent writers. DAOS discards it: it is an object store built directly on byte-addressable persistent memory and NVMe, with no block layer and no POSIX semantics unless you ask for them. Aurora runs 230 PB of it. Intel then discontinued Optane, the persistent memory DAOS was designed around, which left the software looking for a substrate and is a fair summary of Aurora's procurement generally.

“Units recorded” sums only the edges where a public source states a quantity. It is a floor, not a total, and should never be read as installed base.
