Mammouth-Ms

Also known as Mammouth serie (Sherbrooke)

Operated by Universite de Sherbrooke .

Researched with AI assistance, checked by scripts. These rows were researched by AI agents reading public operator, laboratory and vendor sources, appended by scripts and checked by automated validation; no subject-matter expert has reviewed them (how this site is made). A mechanical second-reader pass has since fetched every cited source: 1350 of 1540 systems have a readable citation that names them, and 64 are genuinely weakly sourced. Every claim carries its source and a confidence tier. Treat anything below verified as a lead, not a citation.

What this machine is made of

One row per supplier relationship. “Supplier at build” is the company that shipped the part at the time; where that company has since been acquired, the parent it rolls up to today is shown beside it. That distinction is what makes ticker-level aggregation possible across a thirty-year dataset.

The read

Serial-workload half of the Mammouth cluster at the Universite de Sherbrooke's Centre de Calcul Scientifique. TOP500 lists 'PowerEdge 750, P4 3.2 GHz, GigE': 872 cores, Rmax 3,064 and Rpeak 5,580.8 GFlop/s, rank 66 in November 2004 (its first list) and 406 in November 2006 (https://www.top500.org/system/173850/). A LinuxFr.org news post of 12 July 2004, written while the machine was being assembled, describes the serial part as 846 single-CPU Dell Pentium 4 3.2 GHz machines with 2 GB RAM, a 120 GB disk and a 1 Gbit data network for low-communication jobs, funded by a grant obtained through the RQCHP, and a separate parallel part of 456 dual Opteron 248 2.2 GHz IBM machines on Infiniband (Mammouth-parallele). The 846 pre-launch machine count differs from TOP500's 872 cores, so the final size is taken from TOP500. The university's own page names the two clusters Mammouth-parallele (Mp) and Mammouth-serie (Ms) and says Mammouth is part of the Compute Canada platform funded via Calcul Quebec (company calcul-quebec).

Source check

We fetched this system's own citations and recorded whether each page actually mentions it. This is a corroboration signal, not a fact check, and it is published so you can see how well the sourcing holds up rather than take it on trust.

Every source cited on this page was readable, and none of them mentions this system. They are cited at page granularity, normally because no stable deep link could be found. That is a real weakness in this row and it is why the system carries a confidence tier below verified. See how this check works.
