RIKEN-Fujitsu 64-Qubit System
RIKEN-Fujitsu 64-Qubit System is a superconducting circuits quantum computer operated by RIKEN in Japan. It has 64 physical qubits. It ranks 33 of 74 superconducting machines in this table by physical qubit count. 5 sourced specs are in the spec sheet. No benchmark figures are recorded for it yet.
Also known as RIKEN RQC-Fujitsu 64-qubit superconducting machine, Japan's second domestic 64-qubit system
Fujitsu and RIKEN launched this second 64-qubit machine on 5 October 2023 at the RIKEN RQC-Fujitsu Collaboration Center, with NTT supplying the qubit control software. It is a separate machine from riken-64-qubit, the March 2023 system, whose technology it builds on, and it is the technology step toward riken-fujitsu-256. The platform runs on AWS Lambda behind common APIs and was offered from launch day to companies and institutions in joint research with Fujitsu and RIKEN; the named partners were Fujifilm, Tokyo Electron, Mizuho DI Financial Technology and Mitsubishi Chemical Group. Fujitsu cites a hybrid-algorithm result on the H12 molecule but publishes no gate fidelities, and the release does not state the cooling. NICT's March 2024 page still describes the machine as offered on the cloud since October 2023 (the same page carries an inconsistent 2021 date for the collaboration centre's second machine, which is ignored here). The release does not give the centre's campus, so no site is linked.
Spec sheet
Technical details as the builder or a paper states them, each with its own source. A blank is a fact we could not source, not a zero. Fidelity and coherence figures are in the benchmark table below.
| Spec | Value | Basis | Note | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Processor | 64-qubit superconducting chip, single integrated chip with vertical wiring | Vendor reported | Fujitsu release of 2023-10-05; NICT describes a three-dimensional mounting layout scalable toward 1,000 qubits. | info.archives.global.fujitsuorigin-www.nict.go.jp |
| Software | NTT qubit control software; quantum computer and Fujitsu 40-qubit simulator behind common APIs | Vendor reported | Simulator is Fujitsu's 40-qubit state-vector simulator, paired for NISQ result comparison. | info.archives.global.fujitsu |
| Access and pricing | Cloud platform on AWS Lambda for companies and institutions in joint research with Fujitsu and RIKEN | Vendor reported | Available from 2023-10-05. | info.archives.global.fujitsuorigin-www.nict.go.jp |
| Predecessor | RIKEN 64-Qubit System | Vendor reported | Fujitsu says the chip uses technology from Japan's first superconducting machine shown in March 2023; the dataset treats that as a separate machine. | info.archives.global.fujitsu |
| Roadmap | RIKEN and Fujitsu are developing a 1,000-qubit superconducting computer | Vendor reported | Release states the 1,000-qubit goal; no 256-qubit step is mentioned there. | info.archives.global.fujitsuorigin-www.nict.go.jp |
