Windows HPC Server 2008
Microsoft's HPC-oriented Windows Server variant. The Dawning 5000A / Magic Cube ran it, making that system the highest TOP500 entry ever recorded running Windows at the time it debuted.
Why this part
TOP500's own system record and contemporary trade press (which also independently reports the machine's 12 TB of memory, a detail no press release needed to include) both name Windows HPC Server 2008 specifically rather than a generic 'Windows'. It is the only Windows-based operating system entry in this dataset's Chinese systems, all the rest of which run a Linux distribution.

“Units recorded” sums only the edges where a public source states a quantity. It is a floor, not a total, and should never be read as installed base.
