SGI Origin 2000 (MIPS R10000)

250MHz MIPS R10000 processor, one per CPU slot across Blue Mountain's 48 Origin 2000 nodes.

Why this part

The R10000 was MIPS Technologies' out-of-order superscalar design, licensed and packaged onto SGI's own ccNUMA Origin 2000 boards. Blue Mountain wired 48 of those 128-processor nodes together over HIPPI rather than building one enormous shared-memory machine, a cluster-of-SMPs approach that previewed how most large systems would be built once single-image shared memory stopped scaling.

“Units recorded” sums only the edges where a public source states a quantity. It is a floor, not a total, and should never be read as installed base.
