Compaq Tru64 UNIX
DEC's OSF/1-derived Unix for Alpha, renamed Tru64 UNIX after Compaq's 1998 acquisition of DEC. Ran ASCI Q's AlphaServer SC45 nodes.
Why this part
TOP500's system record for ASCI Q names Tru64 UNIX directly, but the name itself is a marker of the acquisition chain already documented on this system's row. Digital Equipment Corporation shipped this software as DEC OSF/1 AXP, Compaq renamed it Tru64 UNIX after acquiring DEC in 1998, and ASCI Q ran under the Compaq name in 2002, the same year HP acquired Compaq and absorbed it again. The operating system changed brand twice without changing code, which is the software half of the same three-hop corporate chain that moved the Alpha silicon from DEC to Compaq to HP. We found no LANL or HP primary document with fetchable text naming the OS directly, so TOP500's system page is the only source.

“Units recorded” sums only the edges where a public source states a quantity. It is a floor, not a total, and should never be read as installed base.
