AMD Opteron 6274 (Interlagos)

16-core Opteron, one per Cray XK7 node alongside a single K20X.

Why this part

Bulldozer shared one floating-point unit between each pair of integer cores, so its sixteen cores delivered eight full-width FP results per clock. On a general server that was a poor trade and AMD lost most of a decade of market share to it. On Titan it mattered less than usual, because the floating-point work had already been moved onto 18,688 K20X GPUs and the Opteron's job was to keep them supplied. Titan is the clearest early case of a host CPU chosen on price and core count rather than on arithmetic throughput.

“Units recorded” sums only the edges where a public source states a quantity. It is a floor, not a total, and should never be read as installed base.
