XTX Research Cluster

Operated by XTX Markets at XTX Markets (undisclosed site, Iceland) .

Phase 1 seed dataset, compiled by hand. These rows were built from public operator, laboratory and vendor sources. A mechanical second-reader pass has since fetched every cited source: 1092 of 1153 systems have a readable citation that names them, and 40 are genuinely weakly sourced. Every claim carries its source and a confidence tier. Treat anything below verified as a lead, not a citation.

Figures are as last publicly reported for the configuration described below, not a live measurement. Where a system was upgraded in place, the post-upgrade configuration is shown and the earlier one appears in the timeline.

What this machine is made of

One row per supplier relationship. “Supplier at build” is the company that shipped the part at the time; where that company has since been acquired, the parent it rolls up to today is shown beside it. That distinction is what makes ticker-level aggregation possible across a thirty-year dataset.

The read

XTX Markets is a UK-based algorithmic trading firm. Its own press release (22 February 2024, announcing the XTY Labs machine-learning division) describes 'our expansive research cluster' as containing 100,000 cores and 20,000 A/V100 GPUs (NVIDIA A100 and V100) and growing; a later XTX careers page puts the same cluster at over 25,000 GPUs with 650 petabytes of usable storage, so this row records the quantity stated at the time of the dated press release rather than the undated, larger later figure. An independent profile of founder Alex Gerko (The Currency, an Irish business publication) separately confirms the cluster runs on Nvidia chips in Iceland, powered by geothermal energy, corroborating the location though not the exact GPU count, so confidence is reported rather than verified. XTX has since begun building additional data center capacity in Kajaani, Finland; that expansion is a distinct, not-yet-operational facility and is not recorded here. No TOP500/HPL submission exists for this cluster, so ranked is 0 and no FLOPS figure is recorded.

We fetched this system's own citations and recorded whether each page actually mentions it. This is a corroboration signal, not a fact check, and it is published so you can see how well the sourcing holds up rather than take it on trust.
