SoftBank Sakai AI Data Center

Also known as SoftBank Sharp Sakai Plant AI data center

Operated by SoftBank Corp. at SoftBank Sakai Plant Site .

Phase 1 seed dataset, compiled by hand. These rows were built from public operator, laboratory and vendor sources. A mechanical second-reader pass has since fetched every cited source: 1092 of 1153 systems have a readable citation that names them, and 40 are genuinely weakly sourced. Every claim carries its source and a confidence tier. Treat anything below verified as a lead, not a citation.

What this machine is made of

One row per supplier relationship. “Supplier at build” is the company that shipped the part at the time; where that company has since been acquired, the parent it rolls up to today is shown beside it. That distinction is what makes ticker-level aggregation possible across a thirty-year dataset.

The read

SoftBank Corp.'s planned AI data center on about 440,000 square meters (roughly 60 percent) of Sharp's former LCD plant in Sakai, Osaka, reusing the plant's buildings, power supply and cooling equipment: initial capacity above 150 MW with expansion beyond 400 MW, for SoftBank's own generative AI development and for universities, research institutions and businesses. Both the SoftBank and Sharp releases are the same 7 June 2024 announcement and target full-scale operation in 2025, which neither confirms was met; SoftBank's May 2026 GPU cloud launch (GB200 NVL72) does not name Sakai, so the status stays planned as of the announcement date. Distinct from the KDDI Osaka Sakai data center recorded as kddi-gpu-cloud. No accelerator count is published.

We fetched this system's own citations and recorded whether each page actually mentions it. This is a corroboration signal, not a fact check, and it is published so you can see how well the sourcing holds up rather than take it on trust.
