Researched with AI assistance, checked by scripts. These rows were researched by AI agents reading public operator, laboratory and vendor sources, appended by scripts and checked by automated validation; no subject-matter expert has reviewed them (how this site is made). A mechanical second-reader pass has since fetched every cited source: 1350 of 1540 systems have a readable citation that names them, and 64 are genuinely weakly sourced. Every claim carries its source and a confidence tier. Treat anything below verified as a lead, not a citation.

What this machine is made of
One row per supplier relationship. “Supplier at build” is the company that shipped the part at the time; where that company has since been acquired, the parent it rolls up to today is shown beside it. That distinction is what makes ticker-level aggregation possible across a thirty-year dataset.

The read
Millipede was the University of Groningen's central HPC cluster, opened to the university's scientists on 17 May 2010. The university's page lists 236 nodes with 12 Opteron cores (24 GB), 16 nodes with 24 cores (128 GB) and one 64-core large-memory node, a 20 Gb/s InfiniBand network and 110 TB of storage; it also gives a node total of 255 in one place and 200 in another, so its counts are internally inconsistent. TOP500 lists the ClusterVision cluster with six-core Opteron 2.6 GHz and InfiniBand DDR at 3,024 cores, 27.25 TFlop/s Rmax and 33.45 TFlop/s Rpeak, ranked 414th in June 2010, its only list.
