Researched with AI assistance, checked by scripts. These rows were researched by AI agents reading public operator, laboratory and vendor sources, appended by scripts and checked by automated validation; no subject-matter expert has reviewed them (how this site is made). A mechanical second-reader pass has since fetched every cited source: 1350 of 1540 systems have a readable citation that names them, and 64 are genuinely weakly sourced. Every claim carries its source and a confidence tier. Treat anything below verified as a lead, not a citation.

What this machine is made of

One row per supplier relationship. “Supplier at build” is the company that shipped the part at the time; where that company has since been acquired, the parent it rolls up to today is shown beside it. That distinction is what makes ticker-level aggregation possible across a thirty-year dataset.

The read

UK data-intensive analysis platform for environmental and Earth-observation science, funded by NERC and hosted at STFC's Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, run by RAL Space's Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA) with STFC Scientific Computing. Its batch layer LOTUS is documented (page updated April 2026) as over 260 nodes and over 53,000 CPU cores; the host table lists one 265-node group of AMD EPYC 9654 with 192 CPUs and 1.5 TB per host, which is about 50,900 cores by arithmetic, so the headline figure includes other nodes. The ORCHID GPU cluster has 16 nodes: 14 with four A100 and two with eight A100 (72 GPUs). Nodes sit on 10 Gbit/s Ethernet into a 40 Gbit/s core network, and LOTUS says it is not itself an HPC facility, pointing parallel jobs to ARCHER2 and MONSooN. A 2018 CEDA release put the earlier incarnation at 11,500 cores on 600 nodes with storage above 44 PB, and said JASMIN began about six years earlier with 4.5 PB, hence the 2012 start year. No HPL result is published.
