Why this part
SK hynix was first to mass-produce 12-Hi HBM3E, which is the stack behind H200's 141GB total and a large part of why the company's memory division became, for a period, more consequential to the AI accelerator market than any single logic foundry decision. Stacking twelve dies rather than eight in the same package height is a thermal and yield problem before it is anything else, and being first to solve it is a real and temporary advantage rather than a permanent one.
