ShenWei SW1600

16-core ShenWei processor at 975MHz. The processor behind the Sunway BlueLight MPP, and the direct predecessor to the SW26010 that powered Sunway TaihuLight five years later.

Why this part

The first Chinese-designed processor to power a system TOP500 measured above a petaflop of theoretical peak, three years before Tianhe-2 and five before Sunway TaihuLight. NRCPC is the same organisation behind both this part and the SW26010 that followed it, so BlueLight MPP is the clearest predecessor this dataset carries for TaihuLight's fully domestic compute stack. TOP500's own system page and IEEE Spectrum's independent reporting name the same processor, core count and clock speed.

“Units recorded” sums only the edges where a public source states a quantity. It is a floor, not a total, and should never be read as installed base.
