Paragon I/O node RAID storage

Hardware-RAID arrays of commodity 3.5-inch disks attached through dedicated I/O nodes, not the diskless compute nodes themselves.

Why this part

Intel's own October 1993 XP/S product brochure, the same one already used for this system's cooling fact, describes mass storage as arrays of commodity 3.5-inch disks behind hardware RAID controllers, reachable only through a small number of dedicated I/O nodes rather than distributed across the diskless compute fabric, an architecture that scaled from tens of gigabytes on the smallest configuration to a few hundred on the largest XP/S-140-class systems.

“Units recorded” sums only the edges where a public source states a quantity. It is a floor, not a total, and should never be read as installed base.
